Calling all 1st -8th graders!  Our MACHE Spelling Bee will be held in January, but now is the time to start studying!  Get your word lists now.  We will have a practice spelling bee in December.  The winner of our MACHE Bee goes to the Midland Reporter-Telegram Regional Bee in February.  The winner of the Regional Bee goes to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May 2010!  Are you ready for the challenge?

Also, join us for the Great American SpellCheck Fundraiser sponsored by the Scripps National Spelling Bee.  Students participating in the Great American SpellCheck study 50 spelling words from grade specific word lists.  Each student collects pledges (.25, .50, or $1 per correct word) from family and friends  (no door-to-door) for each word spelled correctly on the Great American SpellCheck test to be held in November.  This is a win-win proposition.  The student wins by improving spelling skills while MACHE wins by retaining 100% of the funds for school-related needs and projects.

 Note:  Students who participate in the Great American SpellCheck do not have to participate in our local spelling bee in January.  However, these are the same words that will be in our MACHE Bee, so why not take the challenge!

Contact:  Stephanie Dowlen 432-553-8959 or steph@dowlen.net to get your word lists, pledge sheets, tests and answer keys.  Parents (teachers) will administer the Great American SpellCheck tests to their children in November.  After testing is concluded and correct words are tallied, just mail your pledges to MACHE.
