STATEMENT OF FAITH

MACHE has chosen to be a "restricted membership" group. This simply means that all members share the same basic beliefs concerning theology, family, parental rights and responsibility in education, and the nature of education.

THEOLOGY

We affirm the following basic teachings of the Christian faith:

1. The Holy Bible is the divinely inspired and only infallible, authoritative Word of God, inerrant in the autographs. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. It is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds and religious opinions should be tried. (Deuteronomy 4:2; Matthew 5:17-18; John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 1:1-2; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

2. There is only one true eternal God who reveals himself to us in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; Each with distinct personal attributes, but one in nature, essence, and being. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 14:16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

3. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man (John 1:1,14). He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin (Matthew 1:18-23). He was sinless in His life (Hebrews 4:15). He died on the cross as a substitute for sinful men (Romans 5:6-8: Hebrews 9:15). He rose bodily from the grave (John 20:1-9, 24-31; Acts 2:24) and now reigns with the Father (Acts 2:33; Hebrews 10:12). He will return visibly and personally to the earth both in salvation and judgment (Acts 1:11; Hebrews 9:28; Matthew 24:30).

4. Man was created in God's image (Genesis 1:26) but by his free choice he sinned against God and brought sin into the human race (Genesis 2:17; 3:6; Romans 5:12). Now all humans are born with a sin nature (Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23).

5. Eternal life is offered to mankind as a free gift and cannot be earned through good works (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). Man can only have his sin forgiven by placing his trust in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord (John 3:16; Acts 16:31). New birth comes through the spiritually renewing work of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:5-7).

6. The Holy Spirit comes to live in everyone who receives Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (John 14:23-26; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 3:16). The Holy Spirit gives the Christian the power to live a godly life (Romans 8:1-17; Philippians 4:13).

7. We have placed our trust in Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and He is the Lord of our lives (Romans 10:9-10).

FAMILY

We believe that the family is the basic governmental, social, and spiritual unit established by God. In it the child gradually learns self-government, social relationships, and develops a relationship to the Creator and Savior (Ephesians 6:1-3; Colossians 3:20).

We understand family to mean a married male parent and female parent with one or more children, who are all related to the parents by blood (Genesis 1:26-28), though we recognize the exceptions of a single parent and adopted children (James 1:27).

We reject homosexual marriages or homosexual orientation because it is contrary to Scripture and the intentions of God in creation (Romans 1:18-32), and we believe that such relationships are destructive to children and the very idea of family. In addition, we reject transitory co-habitational relationships as being equally in violation of God's laws and incapable of providing the long-term nurture and instruction needed by children and commanded by God (Proverbs 1:8- 9; 2:1-11; Colossians 3:21; Ephesians 6:4). In view of this, no homosexual or merely cohabitating "parents" are eligible for membership.

PARENTAL RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITY IN EDUCATION

We believe that the ultimate authority for the education of children belongs to parents (Deuteronomy 4:9; 6:1-25; 4:1-4). We believe this is an inalienable right given by God. Accordingly, we believe the State cannot assume this responsibility. We further believe that the State has no authority to either grant or to suspend the parental right and obligation for education.

We believe that the home environment is the primary factor in establishing the limits of educational achievement for all children, including those in a formal classroom setting. The child's basic moral character and attitude toward authority and learning is shaped and nurtured in the home. These elements are the predominant factors in determining educational achievement and progress.

Consistent with our belief in the parents' responsibility for their children's education, we believe in the God given right of the parents to determine the method of education for their children.

THE NATURE OF EDUCATION
We believe that all education is religious in nature since one's view of the world and life, including presuppositions which affect one's analysis, inevitably is involved in teaching (Proverbs 2:1-8 and 31:2 with 6:20-23; Matthew 28:18-20). Every discipline of knowledge has as its final reference point either a God-centered or a man-centered view of reality (Colossians 1:15-20; 2:8-15), and there is no neutral academic discipline.

Although the humanistic world view is often referred to as being "values neutral", we hold it as being indisputably religious. Christian parents should prepare their children to recognize and reject the fundamental differences between a humanistic world view, which permeates all of our society, and the Christian world view. Following is a brief comparison of these two world views:

HUMANISTIC WORLD VIEW CHRISTIAN WORLD VIEW

Philosophy - The wisdom of man. Bible - The revealed wisdom of God.

Naturalism - There is no personal God who is interested in the affairs of men. Nature is a closed system, with time, matter, and energy standing in God's place as the only infinite elements. Supernaturalism - God created the universe. He is distinctly separate from His creation and He can and does interact with His creation.

Evolution - Man is a by-product of time and chance. Therefore, life has value only if it can contribute to society. Creation - Man is created in the image of God. Therefore, life is of infinite value.

Ethical Relativism - Man makes the rules. Ethics is of man, by man. and for man. The belief is that no absolute moral code exists and therefore man must adjust his ethical standards in each situation according to his own judgment. Ethical Absolutes - God makes the rules. God's moral nature is absolute and unchanging. God always hates the evil and loves the good.

Man is autonomous - Man is basically good and should have the freedom to satisfy himself. Man is a Servant - Man's purpose in life is to glorify God by obeying Him and serving his fellow man.

Government Solutions - Man can solve the problems of society independent of God through government programs. God is the Solution - Man is incapable of solving the problems of society on his own. God provides the only solution through the new birth and in the life to come.

Personal / Social Consequences - Abortion, pornography, homosexuality, sexual immorality, illicit drug use, mercy killing, family breakdown, child abuse, environmental extremism, loss of private property, materialism, etc. Personal / Social Benefits - The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control. These result in family, civic, and social harmony.

We believe that all social, physical, and cognitive knowledge should have as its beginning the fear (awe, respect) of God and as its end the glory of God (Proverbs 1:7; Romans 11:33-36).
